Somehow he’s 70

Easter came and went, the weather was glorious and we made the most of the sunshine.  Which was just as well as Tuesday was grey and chilly.  We had the grandkids for the day but they didn’t seem to mind the cold, opting to have lunch in their pirate ships!

When it got too cold we came in and baked a birthday cake as someone had a birthday on Wednesday

Wednesday turned out to be warm and sunny and Rachel, Stu and the children came for a birthday tea after school. We had a fun time, playing games and enjoying being able to eat in the garden. Peter turned 70, it’s hard to believe somehow. When did we get to be so old? At times our bodies feel old and let us down, but in our heads we still feel young.

Yesterday we went to the allotment with some plants and to continue keeping on top of weeds and watering.  We picked some sprouting broccoli, the first crop off of the allotment. Our  scarecrow was still standing so that was good.  We noticed a couple more have appeared onsite so obviously a trend has been started.

Walking has taken a back seat for a while whilst an injury is sorted. Hoping we can get back to our wandering again soon.
 

Halfway through Feb already

The weeks go by so fast, yet at times the days drag - especially when you are at work!!  I really don't want to wish the day away, but I guess we have all been there.

My knitting carries on a pace, not much else to do on these cold wet evenings and weekends.  The garden is perking up, lots of signs of spring, but short of a bit more tidying not a lot to do out there.

Yesterday was my birthday, another year older, but another new year to look forward too.  I guess you have to appreciate every one you are given.  Lets face it no one knows whats around the corner for them.

My girls and grandchildren gave me a surprise on Monday, I got home from work/grocery shopping and was just bringing the bags into the house, when they all jumped out on me.  I can tell you its the biggest fright I have had in a long time.  They came bearing gifts and stayed and cooked us a lovely dinner, all forgiven and of course it was great to see them all!

So here's what I've been doing since last I posted

I've been knitting these in between projects but finished them off at the weekend - hate doing faces

Also made 2 batches of marmalade, pictures below are just the first batch

Weekend - a poorly boy, some knitting and a birthday

This should be entitled "vomit is not a good look on me".

Poor Laurie was sick all over me on Friday evening, to be honest as I was carrying him downstairs and he started to retch, my one thought was not on the stair carpet, so I chose to take the lot.  We had a really rough night, high temperatures and restless, needless to say I didn't get much sleep, it was like trying sleeping with a very hot water bottle.  His Mummy came and collected him early, putting pay to their quiet weekend and left Rufus to continue his weekend with us.  I can't remember the last time we had just Rufus, it was nice but we all missed Laurie.  Kids are funny, normally they are both vying for individual attention but on his own he did miss his brother.

We did lots of work in the garden and Rufus was building an extension for the chicken run and planning where Pops is going to build a treehouse and play area.

Knitting - I just finished this hooded poncho for Jess, the pattern is Hooded Baby Poncho by Lion Brand and the yarn is Stylecare Aran.  The buttons were chosen by Rufus, apparently the the large heart is me, the yellow star him, the dragonfly Laurie and the pink heart Jess.

Today is Jess' birthday, one today.  She will be coming over later for cake.  Here is a picture collage of her first year, such a happy smiley little girl.

today we wish you a very happy 4th birthday.  

Its hard to believe that 4 years have passed so quickly.

I was there when you made your journey into the world, 

unfortunately not as you took your first breathe; 

but to hold you for the first time moments later was magical for me.  

We have watched you grow into an independent little boy and are so very proud of you.
