Lockdown 3 - day 55

I hope you have had a good weekend. Sunday started with freezing fog which lasted until around 11am, slowly clearing as we headed out. These photographs are in reverse order as Blogger decided to play silly.

We walked through the Godmanchester common and into the nature reserve now that the flood water has subsided. In fact we were surprised that it was fairly firm underfoot. Not really finding any damp spots until we got back out into the open common along the main river, and then really only in low lying spots. It made a change to walk a different route.

The houses are in Hemingford Abbots, just look at that sky

I love to see the trees reflecting into the river

So much drift wood washed up along the banks and in the meadows

It was so warm when we got back that we dug out the seat cushions and enjoyed the sun for a while. Still a cool breeze at times but good to sit out rather than be stuck in the house.

Dinner this evening is roast beef and all the trimmings. Looking forward to it. We even made a bread and butter pudding for dessert.

Oh and I’m glad to report no symptoms from the vaccine jab

Lockdown 3 - day 54

My day started with a quick few rows on my scrappy shawl and some photos before heading off into Cambridge for my Covid vaccine.

It was so quick and simple, everyone was so nice and informative and the jab itself painless.

Whilst I was having this done Peter drove over to Maison Clement in Newnham and collected us a treat.  It was even lovely enough when we got home to sit in the garden and enjoy a coffee and eclair.

After that we took a walk around the lakes. It was so peaceful, only people we saw were a few men fishing. The tracks are now fully passable so we went all the way round

We sat for a time in the sun watching the birds before heading home.

I’m feeling slightly spaced out at the present but apart from that fine. Peter is cooking this evening a Prawn dish by Yotam Ottelengi, must admit to feeling peckish as we didn’t have lunch after the coffee and cake so I hope it won’t take too long!

Lockdown 3 - day 53

We woke to blue skies and a frosty start today. This cheeky cat sat sunning itself on the bench.  It comes into the garden from time to time but usually runs off if we go outside.

Clumps to Tête-à-tête daffodils under the magnolia bush in the front garden

We walked out of the village heading to the village of Hilton again. The farm tracks were nicely dry now so it was an easy walk under foot. Coats came off not long into the walk with the sun full on our backs.

Our walk was 8.2 miles round trip and apart from a few people in Hilton itself we only passed two dog walkers and a guy planting trees on the side of the new A14 embankment road. So lovely and peaceful, apart from an aerial display from a Spitfire which is always good to see. We do have a few fly over our way being not that far from Duxford as the crow flies.

The weather for the weekend looks good so we will enjoy the sunshine whilst we have the chance.

Fish and chips takeaway for dinner tonight
