October - day 31

I made it, a post per day and here we are on 31st, Halloween. We’ve had a busy day, carving pumpkins, making fires for lunch in the woods, and eating too many cupcakes.

I was awaiting Boris’ announcement regards a 2nd lockdown but he is arrogant enough that he is nearly 2 hours overdue on his speech. It comes as no surprise that this would happen, just a matter of time.

Stay safe and whatever happens we are all in the same boat xx

October - day 30

And so it starts, the great leaf clear up. We managed to rake and weed the gravel around the house. All the garden furniture is now packed away until next summer. I’m sure when we get up tomorrow it will all be covered again but it’s easier to do it in small doses. The rest of the drive we will do with the leaf blower into the lawn then collect up with the mower. The borders need to be cleared of summer bedding and bulbs planted. We will be busy. It’s easy to forget that there is a lockdown going on, when you are miles away from others.

Take care x

October - day 29

Yesterday evening  - the crossing was booked, the car was packed, we awaited Macron’s address. Lockdown again but from midnight on Thursday (today). What to do? If we go can we get back? Answer to that one is yes with the correct attestation (paperwork). Two weeks lockdown at the Chateau, not really a problem, sometimes we don’t go far as frankly we are just too busy. We looked at each other, go or stay? If we stay we may not see the French half of the family for some considerable time, plus we’d have to unload the car again. Much of the stuff they need in France. Let’s just go. What’s the worst that can happen?

A restless night, half night really as we were up at 2am. We hit the road and immediately ran into a road closure. Diversion. 45 minutes later we are back on track but it’s added 30 minutes to our journey. Roadworks and lane closures on the M11 slow us down. M20 closed along our route. More diversions. Missed exit. Frustrations. Eurotunnel caught with minutes to spare. Emotions running high. Tempers frayed.

France - grey skies, rain but lots of autumn colour.

Can’t relax, so much traffic on the normally  quiet roads. Is everyone running for somewhere to lockdown?

We arrive. Relax. No kisses and cuddles. They are pleased to see us. I can think of no better place to lockdown. Will the UK be next? Not that it matters as we will need to quarantine again when we return

I’ll leave you with a photo of the Chateau  it’s now closed for the rest of the year but their calendar is open for next year and booking up fast

Thank you to everyone who has commented recently. Please stay safe. Catch you tomorrow xx

October - day 28

Today has been almost a repeat of yesterday. As in not a whole lot happened and it rained, again.

We popped out to run some errands this morning and when we got back I hung some wash out, it was blowing beautifully. It can’t have been out for more than 15 minutes when I realised the sky was black and I heard the first peal of thunder. I dashed out grabbed it all in and got the line away as the heavens opened!  Goodness it just poured.

It’s pretty much rained on and off for the rest of the day. I got my wash dried in the dryer and then decided I may as well iron it as I couldn’t do anything else. Ironing two days running!  Must admit what I did yesterday had been in the basket a week, so I’m now up to date. Empty wash and ironing baskets!!

We await the news from France this evening to see if they are locking down again. You really can’t plan anything these days. Am I the only one who feels constantly anxious and on edge? I know there is nothing I personally can do other than wash hands wear a mask keep my distance but it just all feels so helpless/hopeless and does anyone/country really have any answers or are we just groping around in the dark. If we lockdown again what’s the odds of a third or fourth wave each time we try to live normally. How long will it take to give the vaccine, when it available, to the whole world? I really don’t see an end in sight right now, do you?

October - day 27

I didn’t think I was going to have anything pictorial to share with you today it’s been so grim - grey and wet, just miserable. Then suddenly I looked up and the sun was just putting in a last hurrah.  I rushed upstairs to get a better shot than the back door step but both were worth including, well I think so.

This morning I had a wet walk into St Ives to meet with my friend Manda for a catch up. I could have gone in the car but decided I needed both the exercise and the air. I did however call a Peter to collect me!

Then this afternoon I did the ironing whilst catching up on some vlog watching, so killed two birds so to speak.

I’m now about to continue my ten stitch extension, it’s coming along slowly as it’s quite a long way round now. I’m on the third side in the current colours then I plan one more round which I think will exhaust my stash of suitable colours.  It should be plenty big enough for a king sized bed top with overhang.

That’s about it from me today, see you tomorrow xx

October - day 26

What a busy day we had. An early start saw us having breakfast with family on the beach in Southwold. We certainly made the best of the lovely morning before the weather turned a bit showery.

Long term readers of this blog will know that we usually spend an autumn week in Southwold, alas again this year we haven’t, but our youngest and her family are currently enjoying a half term break there. Their first getaway this year, after the disappointment of two cancelled trips to France. We were more than pleased to join them for the day choosing Monday as it had the best forecast.

This Covid year has certainly changed the look and feel of any holiday, taking the spontaneity out of it and I feel so sorry for the businesses that are seeing their livelihoods curtailed due to restrictions. I can’t tell you how many people that were turned away from the pub whilst we were in there, making you feel you must drink up and either order another drink or leave. Gone are the days of a leisurely drink in a crowded pub, jostling to get to the bar, eyeing that bench in the sunshine or cosy seat by the fire. Replaced by masks, track and trace and table service, no lunchtime meals. Sad.

The only good thing is Covid can’t takeaway beach fun and that’s really all the children want. We spent all the time making a huge sandcastle town, much admired and photographed by people on then promenade.

So here is a selection of pictures from our day. I hope you enjoy - of course blogger has muddled the order somewhat!!
