Day 7 - the first wholly dry day in the last two weeks. Being stuck at home gazing out of the window has decided us both that we weren’t happy with a portion of the garden. In fact I have never really been happy with it, I just had to wait for Peter to catch up!
We had a juggle round with some paving and extended the path to the seating area and added another row to it to make a bit more room.
We then dug up nearly all the grass that we had sown when the conifers came down putting back most of the deep border. That grass was never right being a much broader blade variety which grew at a faster rate than the rest. There is a small bit left but hopefully it won’t notice too much.
I will move most of the plants against the fence that are shorter in stature and put in some taller plants at the back. We’d quite like a couple of apple trees but I’m not sure. I would need to make some adjustments to the established part of the border, which needs some work towards the back as there is quite a gap between plants and fence and one shrub is dying (it was here when we moved in) and the flowering redcurrant needs some attention, if Peter had his way it would be gone.
So that’s our project for the next little while, getting it all dug over, there are still old roots from the trees that were removed but at least they are coming out easier now. I’m looking forward to a bit of plant retail therapy and finally being happy with this part of the garden.
