Knitting news

Here we are on the last day of February already. I didn’t think I had made much this month but in fact more than I thought. The blankets were finished in Feb but the rest started and finished.

There is a work in progress but not enough for a meaningful photo, but it’s a baby cardigan request, not needed until May.

The Smockie dress is on its way to its recipient along with the flame coloured cardigan.  Her brother gets the Tama sweater which was finished in January.  I hope that they enjoy them.

I plan on making another foot stool for Maurice’s House. The other one went down well.  I didn’t get any photos of the blankets and stool in place as guests were due and I completely forgot after they left.  Next time if I remember.

I’m also thinking it’s time for another shawl, I have yarn set aside, so maybe I’ll just cast on both and knit on both when I fancy.

What’s on your needles?

Home again

What a beautiful day it has been today and we have spent it travelling home from France in the car. It was a trip of two halves.

France gave us quiet empty roads, the only traffic if any note was around Rouen and Calais

Heighten security at Eurotunnel. Whilst we have seen troops on the ground before, it’s been a while. Sad times we are living in right now

Arriving at Folkestone is always a shock, the roads are so busy with vehicles coming off the Eurotunnel and joining the traffic coming up from Dover, but it seemed especially busy today.  The roads around the Dartford Crossing were heaving as usual not helped by reports of animals in the road! We didn’t see any.  Add to that, the M11 being closed for the weekend around Harlow which meant going further along the M25 and heading up the A1(M).  The 25 was very congested and when we finally got to the A1 there was a three car crash southbound around Stevenage which of course caused tailbacks northbound with everyone rubber necking!!!! So our just under two hour uk leg, took three. Still we got home safely and by the time we’d had a cup of tea all was well.

I think I am going to have to give in and agree to travel the return journey later in the day so as to save the stress of the increased traffic. I do dislike travelling at night but it does have its advantages.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a bit of knitting. I’ve not really managed a whole lot this last two weeks but I do have a finished project and the start of another

Through the week

Of course the photos are in reverse so we can start with today Saturday!

A quiet walk along the lane this morning, enjoying the sun making the most of our last day

Saturday consisted of a visit to the bottle bank, a shop at Super U then an afternoon in the garden

Friday was supposed to be a Brocante shopping trip after taking Rufus to the hospital for a check up then depositing him at school. Unfortunately his arm is not mending so requires an operation on Monday under general anaesthetic to reset it. So he had to return to the hospital in the afternoon for tests so we abandoned our trip and went home.  I spent the afternoon in the garden helping install wires on the raspberry supports. Then went for a walk

Thursday was spent sorting out the strawberry plants and weeding the beds

Wednesday I removed the fabric from this sofa in preparation for it to be recovered. It was a long job removing all the small nails but satisfying. I had a book to listen too so all was well. The afternoon was spent clearing the children’s games/craft cupboard, not a job for the feint hearted!

Tuesday we tackled some cupboards, sorting glassware and various items left by the previous owners which we had thought would possibly come in handy but in reality didn’t. So these have been boxed up to go to Emmaus

Monday we tackled the rest of the logs between showers. The wood store nicely replenished and stacked

Back at La Ruche

We arrived at La Ruche on Monday the 14th, my birthday.

Family back together again. Daughters, grandchildren, cousins

Christmas in February.

Busy times, working together in the fresh air, aching backs and shoulders

Broken arm.

Lunch out. Best steak

More working together, sunny day. Wood gathered in to last another year or more.

Fun times. Loud. Crazy, busy

Wild winds. Branches down. More wood to collect in, it’s never ending.

Snowdrops, aconites, violets
