Our little man is safely delivered back to his relaxed and chilled out Mummy and Daddy.  Granny and Pops have had a super weekend.  The weather couldn't have been better, though proved to be a touch stressful making sure that Rufus didn't burn.

So you want more?

It looks like I whetted your appetites with my Travelling Tales.  Afraid you will have to wait a few days for the next instalment as we have Rufus this weekend.  Plus I am reading our travel journals to refresh myself.  Would you believe we have never read each others journal.  I am finding out what he said about me, and all those boring boy bits about this motorbikes and that spare part!!  I also have hundreds of photographs to go through, it may take some time.  Here's one from the first full day riding, taken outside the Harley Davidson Factory at York, PA, by one of the factory workers.

We plan to go to the coast tomorrow, mad I know as I'm sure the world and his wife will be on the roads high tailing it for the sea.  Its what we Brits do when the sun shines.  I had forgotten how much stuff you need to take when taking a small child out for the day.  Nappies, wipes, sun cream, buggy, swimwear, change of clothes, drinks, buckets, spades, books, cuddly toy, Michael Buble CD's - his favourite (what good taste he has).  Thats before we deal with a picnic, rugs, camera and stuff for us.  Phew exhausted before we start.

Travelling Tales

Back in 2004 my hubby and I took 3 months off work and went travelling.  We went to the USA.  We took our Harley Davidson. We did 15,000 miles.  We had great fun.

It all started over a few drinks at a Harley Rally back in September 2003.  The question was asked "if you could do anything what would it be".  My answer was "drive coast to coast USA".  "What in a car"?  "No on the Harley"!  My husband was very surprised at this.  Anyway the seed was sewn, it germinated over the next few weeks and we just decided to go for it.  It was the ideal time for us.  The youngest had finished university and was living back at home, so that meant that the house, garden and more importantly the cat was looked after.  We both broached the subject with our respective bosses, and whilst surprised they said they would manage if we really wanted to do it.  So no holding us back.

We looked into hiring a bike, but that proved difficult and expensive.  So we then looked into shipping our bike out.  This was actually easier than we expected, and whilst not cheap it was doable.  We used HC Travel and they arranged the outbound shipping and insurance (I'll tell you about that later).  Once the boring details were sorted, we turned our attention to planning the route, the winter months were spent poring over maps and on the internet.  We decided we would start our trip in May as the weather would be better.  We certainly saw some weather (more about that later too).  When planning our route we factored in attending a couple of State Rallies, a concert, Route 66 and a visit to friends in Utah. 

We knew we wanted to go coast to coast but we also went up and down a bit too. Well lets face it have wheels will travel.

Our Harley started its journey out to Baltimore 3 weeks before we did.  We took it and a small trailer down to Southampton, where it was placed on a ship and we waved goodbye. As you can imagine my husband was beside himself.  His pride and joy heading on to the high seas without him..................

Worth the waiting........

In case my UK readers have forgotten what it looks like - here is the sun as at 4pm this afternoon.  The temperature is at a more seasonal 22C, so much better than yesterdays 12C!  Some might say its a tad warm but I'm not complaining.  The forecast is looking good through the weekend so fingers crossed.

Gloomy weekend

I know I keep banging on about our weather but it really is beginning to get everyone down.  Not a glimmer of sunshine at all, just dull, grey, gloomy, mizzle.

Friday it didn't matter so much as I gave the house a good clean, long overdue!!  Friday night was date night, we went into St Ives for a few drinks and a curry.  We had planned to get the guided bus home, leaving the car to be collected on Saturday, however, the bus didn't fit our timetable so we walked home in the dark.  It finally passed us as we were just turning off for home, so at least we walked off the excess of drink and food and saved the fare into the bargain.  Peter got a blister as his shoes really weren't suitable for a trek.

Saturday, dawned, yes you guessed, grey etc etc - so we walked back to St Ives (5 miles) to collect the car, had a look round the market, then came home and had a tidy up in the stable (no horses, just tools, paint, freezers etc), so that we actually get in there.  I spent the afternoon with this fabric making some cushions and a storage bag for the playhouse.



A quiet evening knitting, we even had a fire as it turned so cold.  Can you believe a fire at the end of May.
 
Today - yes you guessed - mizzle, more grey, more gloom.  We decided to have a trip down to Ikea/Costco/Green Lanes - we do this every 3 months or so.  Rachel and Stu came too.  Its amazing how long you can spend in Ikea and always come out with something - more bits for the playhouse, blackboard, playmat, corner storage bag.  Think thats it now or he won't get in it.  Also got ourselves a new bedding set. Nicely stocked up in Costco.  Tummies filled in Green Lanes - late lunch in Gokyuzu.  As usual Lamb Shish with rice and salad washed down with an orange Fanta, and followed up with a glass of tea, whats not to like.
 
So that was our weekend. The weather is promising to pick up this week, we will wait to see.  I'm hoping that it improves for next weekend as we have Rufus, and we want to take him down to the coast on one of the three days....

WIP Wednesday

 Not too much progress on this one

 This one has been changed as my daughter wanted something plainer - same pattern just less pattern if you get my drift

Now at the scary part of my quilt. Do I put the binding on before stitching in the ditch? - any advice would be appreciated

I also have those squares on the go from last week too - next magazine has arrived but no time!
