WIP Wednesday

Work progresses slowly on my WIPs.  I still have the baby car seat cover, the long top and the ten stitch on the needles.  All, but the ten stitch are actually further on than these photos show.

The Conundrum KAL scarflette is finished, can't resist showing it off one more time.......

I have a great desire to cast on something new, not sure what as yet.  But I have told myself I must finish the baby car seat cover first!

I've started a new book - Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl , I must be enjoying it as I haven't fallen asleep yet!!

Conundrum Scarflette

As reported last week I have been taking part in the Grandmas Hand KAL on Ravelry.  The pattern is the Conundrum Scarflette by Hayley Foord.  Great knit, very simple and easy to remember.  The yarn I used was a gift, somewhere between a 3-4 ply with a glitter thread.  I did mine on 3.75mm needles.  I used 40 grams of yarn and once blocked the scarf measures 80" long and 7" at its widest point.

This will be a pattern I will do again.  You can use any yarn, just increase until its half the length you want then decrease. Easy. Thanks very much Hayley, what's next?

Whilst the oven was on

I love those afternoons when you decide to cook something and then it just snowballs.  I had a load of beetroot that I wanted to roast, so thought maybe I would bake some peaches at the same time.

I roast the beetroot with their skins on, just top and tail them, quarter any large ones, salt, pepper and olive oil and roast until tender.

I didn't have the ingredients for my normal baked peaches so decided just to wing it.  I crumbled up a madeline, grated some marzipan, mixed them together, then halved the peaches, removed stones, made balls with the mixture plonked it on the top.  I then popped them into a dish, half teaspoon of honey on each, drop of orange juice, cover and bake.  I like to eat the peaches at room temperature with ice cream or greek yogurt. I'll let you know how they taste.

Next into the oven was some goat cheese stuffed mini peppers and I chucked in a few vine tomatoes too, they are currently cooking.

For dinner tonight we are having courgette and feta cakes.  I make mine thus.  Boil some potatoes in their skins until tender.  Allow to cool, grate into bowl.  Grate the courgette into colander, sprinkle with a little salt to draw out the water.  Leave for 30 mins, squeeze in some paper towel and add to potatoes, crumble in some feta cheese and chopped mint, season to taste.  Shape into cakes and chill until needed.  Shallow fry in some oil.  Enjoy.

KAL update

Yesterday we started the Conundrum Scarflette KAL.  I managed to cast on last night whilst babysitting the boys and here is my progress. It is a very easy pattern to memorise.

I forgot to take the camera with me yesterday, so no photos of the boys today. However we will be seeing them again tomorrow as we are going to the Burghley Film Festival with them.

I have a quiet day to myself today as hubby is out.  I need to clean the oven, clean windows, weed the garden...... but actually I think I may just put a wash on then get out my knitting.

KAL time

As some of my readers will know I belong to the Grandmas Hand group on Ravelry, and from time to time participate in the odd KAL (knit along).

Starting on 2 August it will be the turn of Hayley Foord to host our KAL, she has designed a scarf and is keen for us all to try it out.  The pattern is Conundrum Scarflette and it is free to use.  I am planning to use this yarn, which I was given recently.

I have no idea what the yarn is other than it wraps out at 4 ply.  It has a multi coloured metallic thread running through it, so will make a nice evening scarf.  There is 200 grams including cone, so there should actually be enough for several scarves or as this pattern is so flexible, I could keep increasing until I knit a shawl size.  We will see.

What a wonderful weekend we had weather wise, apart from the spot of rain on Saturday afternoon it was wall to wall sunshine - 25C in the shade.  I spent two very pleasant afternoons in the garden with my knitting.  A reward for jobs achieved earlier in the day.

As previously mentioned I didn't sleep well on Sunday night/Monday morning so cast on another Super Natural Stripes.  This colour combination reminds me of ice cream.  I decided to make this one with short sleeves and think it works really well.  I just knitted 4 rows in stocking stitch, then 4 rows garter stitch. This is a great pattern, very quick to do.  I think this will be my "go to" pattern

The sunshine has also bought the Wisteria on too, still lots of buds to break, but we are dull/cooler today (good thing as I was at work, nothing worse than being shut in when the sun is out), so it will slow things down.

I still have two WIP's on the go, but neither a doing it for me, so plan to cast on something new, lets face it I have plenty of stash to get through.
