Knitting - my needles are on fire

Garments seem to be flying off the needles at the moment.  I showed you the Baby Picchu briefly on Sunday but here it is being modelled by Miss J.

We couldn't raise a smile, her Mummy reckoned it was because she was embarrassed that the cardigan didn't match her babygro! She had been wearing her orange number

This afternoon I was quietly knitting when there was a loud bang outside, on investigation I discovered that there had been an accident. The fourth one in the time we have lived in this house. I took a sneaky photo and this is what the local paper had to say.  Fortunately only one person was injured and not too seriously.

After that excitement, I did go on to finish the teal cardigan.  It turned out a bit on the large size, but then I was using double knit rather than sport weight. So it will be one for her to grow into.

Weekend - weather forecasts can be wrong

We've had the boys for the weekend.  When I looked at the forecast my heart sunk. I made plans for very wet weather and crossed my fingers that we could keep them entertained.  My worries were unfounded.  Whilst it has been incredibly windy it has stayed dry and the only rain happened overnight.

They had great fun doing what boys do in the garden, dig holes, fill them with water and just get generally muddy, climb trees.  All good fun.

Laurie has no fear of the chickens, Rufus was a bit more cautious.  I actually surprised myself with holding them, but you can't show fear!!

So that was what we've been up to this weekend and I even managed to get some knitting done.  Never still in our house.

Knitting - FO Friday

Up early this morning to photograph this finished cardigan and to get sorted out before I pick up the little boys for the weekend.  Not much time to do anything else but play and decide what if anything they will eat!!

So here is the finished cardigan from WIP Wednesday's post.  I am really pleased with how this has turned out and should be a useful addition to Miss J's wardrobe.

Knitting - WIP Wednesday

As I mentioned earlier this week I have a whole stack of patterns and yarn put together.  Here is the first cardigan

This is the pattern, it came from a Yours Magazine a while back, sorry no idea which issue.  The yarn I'm using is Sirdar Click Aran with Wool.  I love how quickly aran weight knits up, this should be finished this evening, so far its only taken 75 grams of yarn.

Garden - Right on time

It will be 3 weeks tomorrow that the girls arrived.

When I collected them I was told that they would start laying in about 3 weeks.  So imagine my pleasure when I checked this afternoon to find these waiting for us.  They are quite small but to find 2 was a bonus.

I see some lovely egg dishes and cakes in our future.  Their run extension arrived today and has had 2 coats of paint so soon they will have a bit more room to move around in whilst we aren't about.

Gardening - Update on the bees

Its seems that they will be leaving this evening.......

After Leslie and Abigail collected the bees yesterday, they were carefully put into a new nucleus and the others hives checked.  Whilst walking back to the house Abigail removed her veil and received 2 bee stings to her head and ear.  She thought nothing of it, took some medication and went home but within 40 minutes she had a severe reaction and ended up in A&E.  It turns out that she is now hypersensitive to bee stings, so they can't risk keeping them.

To be honest whilst it is sad to see them go, they went for me again whilst I was in the greenhouse this morning and Peter got chased again, and his arm is really swollen from yesterdays stings.  Its no pleasure down the end of the garden at the moment, they obviously aren't happy.  I think they will be much happier in a farm setting away from people.  And I will be happier knowing that the boys can play in the garden without the fear of bee stings.

BTW - the chickens keep making a bid for freedom, their new run extension arrives tomorrow
