That French feeling

Ahh and we are back.  After an early start yesterday morning we arrived in sunny France.

As soon as you turn into the long lane to the Chateau you feel the peace of the countryside wrap round you.  Windows down we took in the sights, birdsong and soft breeze.

The woods and garden are covered in a coat of gold from the celandines, their faces open to the sun, magical.

I’ll leave you with my photos of a walk around the grounds for now.  Today we will be tackling the gardens, cutting grass where possible, just neatening nature, rather than a full out stripping of the lawns whilst all the wild flowers abound.  It will be weeks before the lawns get a proper haircut. But for now they need to be guest tidy at least.

Enjoy your day

Sunshine, lots of it

I hope you have the weather we do.  We are currently sat in the garden enjoying a cup of tea and the warm sun.  It’s beautiful.

This week so far, what have we been up to? Yesterday morning I caught up with some housework whilst Peter was out with Rachel for a bike ride and coffee. Father and daughter morning.

After lunch we took a walk round the village lakes.  So many wild primrose, pretty

Lots of tree damage on the lake edge

Mondays walk was 3.3 miles, just a short one

Today we’ve been out again, 6.5 miles around the Eastside Common, Godmanchester Nature Reserve and meadows

This is what the rest of the week looks like, happy with that

Weekend

What a beautiful weekend it has been. Sunny, bright but with a chill wind at times. But so good to feel the suns kiss on your cheeks.

What did we get up to?  Well walked of course! Actually not too much for me on Saturday, we met our daughter and grandchildren in St Ives so that was a 4.4 mile round trip.  I spent a quiet afternoon nursing my cold whilst Peter went for another walk.

Our evening was enjoyable, dinner in Cambridge then a concert at the Junction - Martin Harley, Daniel Kimbro and Sam Lewis - country/blues/folk. Nice to go out for a change and feel normal after the last two years.

Today, we have walked taking a route that we’ve not done in a while, back near our previous home - 12.5 miles

I thought I’d show you a painting that has been done from one of Rebecca’s photographs from last year’s mid summer party at the Chateau. It’s by Lindsay Goodwin Fine Art you can find her on Instagram and if you have a cool $9,700 this could be yours. This is the second painting Lindsay has done of the Chateau from one of Rebecca’s photographs. The first one sold very quickly.

And just a couple more lamb photos because they are so cute

Hope you had a great weekend. Onward into a new week

Friday update

And here we are at Friday again. The weeks really do whizz by.

So what have we been up to since Tuesday? Well Wednesday was a miserable day so we caught up with some housework and sorting in the garage, then went into Huntingdon to collect Peter’s new glasses and pickup some gardening stuff for the allotment.  By the time we were back at the car it started to rain so decided to call in on mother in law before going home. It poured with rain all afternoon, evening and through the night. So knitting was how I spent my time.

I managed to finish two projects this week. The Linus shawl and the Scalloped edge cardigan

Thursday we walked in the morning. As everywhere was wet first thing we walked the Thicket Path from Houghton Mill, just under 6 miles.  I met with a friend during the afternoon so that was my day taken up.

This is our forecast for the next few days

Today we headed out towards Godmanchester

We walked nearly right round the meadows, which we’d not done before. Most enjoyable apart from a few soggy spots, which forced us to detour through Huntingdon. However, our route took us passed the old castle mound which we had seen from the car but never visited. So much on your doorstep that you miss out on until you get out walking.

11 miles walked today, I’m sure there is more on the cards for the weekend. I’m really hoping that all this exercise will trim us down a bit, but it certainly gives you a good appetite!!
