Starting the year

Can we still say Happy New Year on the 9th January?

This year is getting off to a positive start.  My friend Sally and I are organising an Easter Bazaar in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK, check out our events page on Facebook.  If you are considering giving to charity this year, then why not make it Alzheimer/Dementia Research in your given country?

Granny's World will be having a stall at the event, still deciding what I will make, but there will be some Easter themed items.

2017 has seen plenty of knitting action so far, I have completed 3 projects, all of which I am happy with especially as 2 of them are for me!

Another Monday

another weekend has come and gone, ours was a wet one, so with nothing better to do, I knitted, and knitted..........

One cardigan finished and another started

This cardigan will have peach flowers to break up the orange, but its cheerful and summery, lets face with the week we have forecast we need something summery.  Wall to wall wind and rain, with a few sunny intervals if we are lucky )-:

One thing we did get done this weekend though, was to sort out my husband's wardrobes!  My husband you have to understand lives at floor level, so if he can't see it when the doors are shut then its fine with him.  In the end I just picked everything from the floor of the cupboards and chucked it around the bedroom, then said if he didn't sort it, it was all going out.  Three charity bags and one rag bag later he has a beautifully tidy space.  I'm happy and he really got into the spirit of it and actually sorted his bedside cupboard too.

Health update and more for the stash

Readers, I have managed to drag myself into work.  I ventured out yesterday to do a grocery shop, and that's about all.  I feel better than I did, but unfortunately not so Peter.  He has been to the doctor this morning, who then sent him off to the hospital for a chest x-ray.  He has antibiotics and gets the results tomorrow.  We are hoping its not a reocurrence of the pneumonia he had a couple of years ago when he last had a bad chest.  We will have to see. 

We have Beck and Rufus here again for a few days whilst the builder puts in the new stairs.  Poor Rufus is not well either, so we all make a great crowd coughing and spluttering.  I have never known us all to be so poorly.

I paid my daily visit to the local charity shop this afternoon and relieved them of 3 bags of yarn they were just putting out. 

600 grams of Sirdar Denim Sport Aran in blue

150 grams of Sirdar Silky Look also in blue

200 grams of Patons Pearl Double Knit in yellow and a 380 gram bag of a green yarn which looks like double knit - no labels on that. My stash really didn't need it but as the whole lot only cost me £9.50, I felt it would be a crime to leave it.  The green yarn will get used on my ten stitch twist rug.  The rest will get put away for some future project. The pictures were taken from Ravelry as I couldn't be bothered to get my camera out.

I started another baby cardigan with matching hat yesterday its, Belle from Patons Nursery Days, doing this one in a pale peach double knit.  Pictures to follow along with the completed Lucy Cardigan

400grams of the fawn mix which looks like James Brett Marble chunky
1000grams of the purple mix - yes I know it looks blue - DK and has a mainly wool content by the feel of it.

And what did this little lot cost me........... £10.50

The reds will make the base of, yes you guessed it another ten stitch, in fact most of it will get turned into blankets.

I have to tell you I actually left yarn behind, well 2 bags, but they were mixed bags of oddments, never quite so appealing

WIP Wednesday #6 - oops should be #7

After surviving a week with two WIP's I decided it wasn't so bad, so have cast on another, plus when its particularly warm its small enough to cope with.  This time its a tea cosy - red for my re-decorated kitchen.  I'm using King Cole Haze and it is a simple twisted rib on a garter stitch base.

The autumn ten-stitch is coming along, not as much done this week as I had planned but I have been doing other things.

I have re-covered an old sewing box (I should have done a before photo) and made a matching cushion so it does duty as a foot stool too.  I'm very pleased with the box, though I am sporting a couple of blister burns on my finger from the hot glue gun!  I also made a couple of large scatter cushions for the sofa.  The material was a charity shop find for both projects, so the cost was negligible. Result.  Its amazing what you can find around the house that can have the 'make do and mend treatment'

Baby Pack Project

Yesterday we were discussing Baby Pack Project at our knitting group.  I have so many knitted baby items in house that I decided these should go to a useful cause, plus they were taking up valuable drawer space.  I have duly put together a large parcel of blankets, hats and cardigans. I love to knit baby clothes, they are so quick and any excuse to knit is always good. 

I have also joined the Baby Pack Project group on Ravelry too, so have a UK contact for my parcel.

Out with the old

this weekend has been about clearing out. 

As previously mentioned we are having our barn turned into a garden room.  To do this we need to clear out all the junk that has been dumped in there over the past 11 years!!  No mean feat I can tell you, firstly we needed to clear space in the stable - aka Peter's workshop/Harley store, this was done with him kicking and screaming that he would now never be able to find anything, to me its now tidy!!  So that was Saturday gone. 

Sunday we started on the barn, boxes and boxes of books mostly his!  This took us most of the day as he had to go through everything.  I have been ruthless and put out most of my old books for the charity shop, if I've not read them in 11 years I'm never going to.  Rachel was there to help and with a short break for a late lunch we have broken the back of it. 

My car is full of things for the charity shop.  We have a pile of stuff to go to the tip.  So once we've found a home for the remaining items, mainly christmas tree/decorations we should be ready for the carpenters to work their magic.

The only downside to my garden room is that I have had to cut down my beautiful Wisteria, I confess I shed a few tears whilst putting it through the chipper.

Sands Appeal - Part 2

Finally finished this blanket, it shouldn't have taken me this long but I guess everything else has got in the way.  Will definately knit some more.  Finding it hard to think about what it will be used for.  So sad.
