All free today

Friday again already, the weeks just fly. Today we headed over to Waterbeach in search of the free soil improver. They had lots. The security guard on the gate said “good morning young lady” I could get used to these compliments, though I’m sure he says it to everyone! 

Peter and I arrived before Rachel so we had 12 bags filled and waiting by the time she got there. 

Glad it was a nice day, as this stuff is smelly and you need the windows open!

The improver is now spread over the beds on our plot and I have winter cabbage, rainbow chard and sprouting broccoli plants on the way. We will have something in to over winter. Need to get some onion and garlic sets and we will be done for now.  

Back home we vacuumed both cars and left the windows open for a bit to get rid of the smell!

Sometime was spent tidying the front garden. Peter removed a self set tree which was taking over a border and I pruned my roses and moved some foxgloves. Replanted some bulbs that a local cat had removed whilst using our border as a toilet!

Following this we changed and went for a walk to enjoy the beautiful afternoon

All in all a good and productive day

A village affair

It is was so good to see the village and beyond turn out for the annual A Classic Affair car show. The weather even behaved itself. There were definitely more cars on show this year which is good, especially as it’s in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance service which operates in our area.

These are just some of the vehicles on show that piqued my interest, I like the really old stuff whilst Peter prefers the big American jobs.

We took a walk after the show and enjoyed a pint in the Axe and Compass before coming home for a quiet afternoon with knitting and audio book/reading in the garden

Thursday Flower Club

Regular readers will know that I have been going to the Thursday Flower Club on the first Thursday of every month since it started in August last year. If you fancy trying it out then make sure you book as classes are very popular.

This is the arrangement I created yesterday.  We were given instruction to keep our flowers within an L shape.  Pretty happy with how this turned out.  This would looking lovely placed on a mantle on the corner of a mirror.  Maria always provides the freshest of flowers and most of the arrangements last well into a second week as long as you remember to top up the water supply.

The Lodge Flower and Craft School do a range of really interesting workshops and I plan to try out a few.  Its particularly good as the school is based in my village so only a walk away. 

They also run a really good bed and breakfast there too, so if you fancy a night away before a  workshop or just a weekend away in a lovely location its the perfect place.  Hemingford Grey also boast the pub of the year The Cock which is a very short walk from The Lodge.  So all in all the perfect venue, close to Cambridge too

All about flowers

We arrived back from France yesterday, and today I have been on a flower arranging workshop in the village.  So good to have a venue close to home - The Lodge Flower and Craft School. They are doing a Thursday Flower Club, which I decided to try out.

We were a small group just 5 ladies, today's project was to arrange in a Bento box.  It was a fun project, I've never done any flower arranging classes so wasn't sure what to expect, but this appealed to me.  We all did something different with our boxes and flowers provided.  The workshop runs from 10-12 with a coffee break - cake from Tom's too.

So here are some photos of my efforts, I'm pretty pleased with it even if I say so myself.  What do you think?
