Easter Break?

A break is definitely not what we have had this long 4 day weekend.

Friday was really dull and miserable so we went to town and tried to find hubby clothes for the upcoming wedding - fail.  I thought I hated clothes shopping but he is worse than me.

Saturday and Sunday - scrub, rub and paint would be 3 words that described our time. 22 chairs prepped and first coated.  The men built the bar with Jess giving some instruction. We ate far too many hot cross buns and a lovely roast lamb dinner.  I've had no chocolate, how good am I?

And today, its been an assault on the garden, bushes have been tamed and areas cleared.  Busy time but very satisfying. It will look beautiful..........

Enough .......please

Rain that is.  Today we were supposed to have sunny intervals, 18C temperature, 90% humidity.  We had some sun, we have the temperature, but we have rain so I guess that is 100% humidity.  I am just sick and tired of the dreary skies, and the constant rain.  Its been over 5 weeks since we had a totally dry day.

 

I went and bought my summer bedding plants this afternoon but can't see me getting them in anytime soon.  Because its been so cold everything in the greenhouse is behind, my beans, squash and courgette plants are doing ok, but my tomatoes are pathetic, I've had to bring into the kitchen and I have other seeds that have rotted or just not germinated.  And to cap it all I think my Wisteria hasn't survived the winter, others locally are in flower,but not a sign on mine apart from about four leaves on the end of one branch!

The only bright spot in my day is that I managed to get some tickets to go and see Mick Hucknall at the Albert Hall in September.......Exciting, though shame its a Tuesday night, oh well, guess I will be bleary eyed at work, unless we take a day off.



Right, as its still raining, I'm going to make another cup of tea, and get my knitting out.  Which will it be the ten stitch or the baby cardi?

Whilst taking pictures in the garden this afternoon I spotted this fellow making haste through the hole in the beech hedge

Signs of spring

After weeks of mild weather we awoke to a bright and frosty morning

The bulbs are emerging. The aconites have been out for a couple of weeks now, their bright little heads a welcome sight in the past dreary days

Flame berries in the seed pods of the iris.  I love how they are decomposing, leaving a casing of chiffon

I have the day to myself. No plans. I have put a wash on. Waiting in for a parcel to be redelivered.  My cold is progressing, more irritating than anything.  Funnily, 35 years ago, on the eve of our wedding, I had a really bad cold, feeling rough, not that it marred the big day.  35 years - Coral or Jade depending on whether you are traditional or modern.  We won't bother with either on Sunday, just a nice lunch out, time to ourselves to reminisce.

Hubby just sent a text - puncture on the M11 southbound, not a good start to his day.

Judy, hope you are feeling better today - she has a cold virus too.

Also - I'm wondering about starting a knitting/craft group in my garden room.  My worries, that no one would come.  Should I do it?  How often should it run?

Weekend Round Up - oh my aching back

What a beautiful weekend, I hope it was warm and sunny where you were.  We have spent the weekend working in the garden and have achieved lots. 

Yesterday my status on Facebook was - aches from too much gardening, why do we carry on till it hurts?  These were the answers -

I love spring time in the garden so many lovely colours

The vegetable garden has been dug, raised beds ready and some sown with seeds.  Seedlings potted on and herbs sown. Old plant saucers used for stepping stones.  The rain barrels installed on the garden room, ground for the steps have been dug out, remaining brick work has been painted - I won't post the photographs that Peter took of me as I'm wearing a cap, I don't do caps and frankly look a mess, yes I know I'd been gardening all day but I draw the line at how I look.

So its back to work for a rest!!
