A wheelybug cow

Some birthday bubbles

His birthday cake made by Aunty Rachel - a triumph

Birthday tea

Birthday trike from Aunty Rachel and Stuart

And so to the party. The weather was mixed, more wet than anything, thunder, lightening, hail, but we managed to have part of the afternoon in the sunshine. Stuart was our official photographer, so I will post more pictures of the afternoon when we receive them. Thank you Stuart.

As this was also Rufus' naming day, Rebecca made a speech on behalf of her and Tim; there weren't many dry eyes I can tell you. Here are a few excerpts -

It might seem strange to be having a naming ceremony for a little boy who has been wearing his name for a whole year now.  But it takes a while to own a name and for you to make a mark, however small, on the world ..............

.........  I never thought that I would be so fascinated by another person, that I could spend hours watching you sleep, eat and play. You have bought an enormous amount of love and happiness into our lives and have truly stolen both our hearts.

........ special thank you to two people - firstly Tim - for growing into a great daddy and being by my side even through the gruesome bits.  And finally to my mum - I would never have been able to enjoy this amazing year as much as I have without your help. About this time a year ago you were walking me to my epidural and through the gas and air haze I remember asking you how the hell you did this twice.  You said to me "I promise you that it will all be worth it once you have that baby in your arms" - now I don't say this very often, but you were totally right.

What more can a mother ask for - a daughter telling you they are right for a change.  Believe me I could not see for the tears.  Rebecca is a fantastic mother and I know it is going to be hard for her to go back to work on Wednesday.  Tim, you are doing a great job too.  For the full speech check out here

We would just like to thank you both for bring this little person into our lives -

he has stolen our hearts too!

What do you have on yours?

Pancakes that is.  Its lemon and sugar for me everytime.  I'm fairly traditional when it comes to the good old pancake, though I do like to drop a few raisins into the pan with the batter, my mum always does this.  Peter, he likes nutella or golden syrup or maple syrup depending on his mood.  Mrs Jones made us pancakes for breakfast on Saturday, she did American style which we had with bacon and maple syrup, very good, but to my mind a whole different meal.

We won't be having our Pancake Day today as we are off to see Paul Carrack at the Cambridge Corn Exchange tonight, so will have dinner in town.  I'm favouring sushi so will more than likely head for Yo Sushi if we have time.

So whatever you have on your pancake enjoy and don't eat too many

Granny not the camera again!

Each Friday I visit with Rufus and his mum, and yes I take my camera with me. I like to keep a weekly record to see how he changes and also so that his Grandad (Pop) can see him.

Today I wasn't the only one with the camera, I had to make way for the professional. Beck's friend and colleague Ruth Jenkinson came to visit and to take some lovely photographs of Rufus and his mummy. I'm sure Beck will display some on her blog Becoming Mrs Jones when they are ready, so I suggest you take a look see, its a really good read even without the pictures.

So the weekend

Weekends for me start at 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon (1:30 every other week as I have craft group)

Last Thursday I went out for dinner and the theatre with my youngest, this trip was one of my birthday presents from February. We decided to go for dinner at Pizza Express as my husband isn’t a pizza fan so it’s a real treat for me. We followed this with dessert and coffee at CafĂ© Nero – triple chocolate cheesecake, oh the calories but I forced myself to eat it!

The play was the Secrets of Sherlock Holmes – not quite what we expected and very short started at 7:45 and we were home by 9:30 and there was an interval! Still dinner and chat certainly made up for the plays shortcomings

Friday was spent house working and gardening in preparation for Sunday’s surprise baby shower (wanted everywhere to look nice).

Saturday morning I spent baking, the Jones arrived mid morning and were whisked off shopping. The evening was spent in town for the annual birthday cocktails and dinner, though this year Mrs Jones was drinking non-alcoholic, you’ll need to read Mrs Jones blog for details of what happened in Brown’s! For dinner we went to Agora (Turkish) very good meal, then got ripped off by the taxi driver on the way home, he wanted £42 to take 6 of us with 2 drop off’s, managed to get him down to £40, but it was a very silent ride home.

Sunday dawned grey and damp, what happened to the promised warmest day of the year? I had planned to have the baby shower in the garden. 10:30 the youngest arrived to whisk away the mother-to-be so I could get on with the shower lunch and all was in place when the guests arrived at 12 – the MTB was suitably surprised and a good time was had by all (I hope). Typically the sun came out just as everyone was leaving.

Don’t forget it’s a bank holiday this weekend so we get an extra long one

I have news

For the past few weeks we've been keeping a huge secret, one which I must admit was very hard to keep quiet about. We are going to be grandparents in June 2010, with the scan out of the way we are allowed to annouce this to the world. I did pop a note on Facebook yesterday, but felt I really must blog it. If you click on the scan link above you will see the scan picture on Rebecca's blog. So I guess I'll be boring you all with baby news from time to time.

We have just spent the last 10 days in Southwold which was a lovely break, lots of walking, eating and knitting. The weather could have been better but in November I guess you can't be too picky. I managed to knit a slipover for Peter, which ended up too big so I need to sort that, really cross actually as I'd done a tension square which came out perfectly but managed to gain 4" in the knitting! I also finished another zig zag pram blanket in pinks which I'm pleased with
