At least we have our memories

The man has gone but our memories remain

Our dear father passed away peacefully yesterday, no longer with us but no longer in pain

After a seven year war with the Big C, he lost the final battle but never his sense of humour

a husband of 61 years

a father to three

a grandfather to six

and a great grandfather to four

Rest in peace Dad until we meet again xxx

The tree of life

This post is prompted by an email and then a phone call last night.

First the email from a friend, telling of the passing of an acquaintance.  For him this was the third death in a day. We lightly joked that hopefully this was his three for the year.  Then not 20 minutes later came a phone call from another friend telling of the passing of her mother in law.  It was with a sad heart that I relayed the information to the first friend.  For him this was just too much and you try hard to comprehend so much in a day.

This got me thinking about life and how it’s like a tree.  You are born and you sit on the grass until you are big enough to climb.  Your climb should be slow depending on how many people there are above you.  Most of us are born with parents, grandparents and hopefully great grandparents.   As people leave the tree you start your ascent.  Some people leave the tree before reaching the top, their time too soon.

Once you reach the top of the tree you have to decide what you are going to do with your time.  There are those that sit there and do nothing, bemoan their age and life in general.  Then there are those that live life to the full and grab every moment they have.

None of us knows how long we will be at the top of our tree or when our time will come, or in fact if we will ever reach the top.  Some get a warning, others just slip away. Fortunately for us we are still not at the top of our respective trees, but for those of you that are, live every day as if it’s your last.  Actually we should all live every day as if it’s your last. Take time to tell someone you love them. Try to do something nice for someone.  Easy said, but hard to do, everyday life/work gets in the way.

I’m not sure that I have actually made any sense here but those are my thoughts.  Enjoy your time at the top whilst you have the chance.

In memory of Jean, much loved by her family and all those that knew her
