Retirement Trip ..... Cut short part 6

From Anau we took the Southern Scenic route, it was a lovely drive and we stopped at lots of beaches along the way.  Some amazing seaweeds, shells and stones.  We love to collect and we did manage to bring a few home.

Our overnight stop was in Invercargill, where we were to call in to another on-the-road agent to look at the fridge!!  Invercargill wasn't anything to right home about, lots of roadworks and hardly anywhere open to eat on a Sunday evening - we ended up in an Irish Bar?!  Anyway on Monday morning we were with the agent Scott, bright and early and as far as he was concerned he said the fridge needed replacing.  Hurrah, at last, someone that wanted to help.  He made all the arrangements and it was agreed that Maui would have a replacement fridge waiting for us in Dunedin first thing on Wednesday.  Luckily Scott had a branch there and gave us all the info we needed.  He also gave us a number of recommends for places to visit and eat on the way.  It turned out that the 2 March was the start of the Bluff oyster season so Scott said we had to go and have lunch at the Oyster Cove restaurant , we were not disappointed

seafood chowder for me

Oysters for him

He also suggested we visited Curio Bay, which we did and even stayed on the campsite there too, so peaceful and quiet.  There were some lovely walks along the headland from the campsite and we had hoped to catch sight of the penguins but no luck, we did wait out until nearly dark but the insects were biting

Unfortunately we woke to rain and our drive to Dunedin was fairly miserable and quite stressful as the satnav decided to pack up on us.  We did manage to find ourselves a campsite with the help of some fitful supermarket wifi.  We ended the day quietly with a hot chicken, salad and a bottle of wine.  So did we get that fridge sorted........ tune in for the next episode
