Suffolk Secrets - Orford to Butley Ferry loop

Sunday 16th dawned a bit cloudy but the forecast was for sun around 11 so after a bacon bap and coffee at the Quayside tearoom we set off along the opposite bank heading out towards Butley Ferry.  As Saturday the going was a bit sticky until you got to the less well walked track and you could relax without the fear of sliding onto your bottom.

As you can see the promised sun arrived almost on cue and everything just looked so much better for the sun.  Lots of bird life to watch.  Seals basking along the far bank of the river, but not close enough for my phone camera to capture

The Butley Ferry is another summer ferry, manned by volunteers which allows you to cross over to the village of Butley to extend your walk.  We just continued back along the bank until the footpath finally turns inland towards Gedgrave and then back to Orford.

A very pleasant walk which takes you past the Pinneys Smokehouse and the Pump Street Chocolate/bakery depot.

Total walking for the day was 7.7 miles. We had dinner in the Jolly Sailor pub - really quiet on a winter’s Sunday evening just us and another couple.  Sausage and mash for me, Burger and sweet potatoes fries for him. Another good day
