Taking a break

Just popping in to say I’m taking a break from the blog for a bit. Spending some much needed family time. I’ll be back to tell you all about when I have the time.

Meanwhile, here is the Zick Zack scarf, not much more of the second ball left so I’ll be casting off soon.

Take care and enjoy the holiday weekend xx

It’s been a long day

Finally we have been able to have the youngest grandchildren to sleepover.  It’s been a while and we had forgotten just how tiring little ones are.

They have turned the house upside down and had lots of fun.  We’ve played with Lego, puzzles, crafted, baked, been to the park, cleaned bikes, made sofa dens, even got them weeding the lawn, amazing what appeal a gadget they can use has.  They have eaten so much plus I’m sure too many sweets.

They are tucked up now, both falling asleep before stories were finished.  I think we will have an early night, they had us up just after 5am this morning and I’m sure the same again tomorrow.

Hoping for a bit of a lay in ....... please

Nature is wonderful

Whilst walking in the rain today this Chicken of the Woods caught our eye, so bright and vibrant. I’m not sure I would be brave enough to eat it but it does look very attractive in its fresh state.

The Thicket has really gone green now, it’s amazing how fast the undergrowth and leaf canopy fill out.

We also checked in on the swan, she had her babies tucked in tight apart from this one who kept popping up under her wing. So cute

These four ducks have grown no end over the last month. Shame they can’t stay cute and fluffy a bit longer

As I said it was a wet and windy walk but better than staying in.  It does feel very chilly for mid May I really hope things pick up soon. I feel the need of some sun on my skin and warmth in my bones.  Goodness I sound like an old lady!

May showers

Busy morning grocery shopping and haircut for me - bit shorter than I planned on. Luckily my hair grows really fast.

Got back and pulled a few weeds and planted some geraniums.  I’m undecided whether to do wall pots this year hence the geraniums ending up in the garden.

After lunch we walked the village lakes.  We had only just got there when the heaven opened, fortunately Peter had a large umbrella with him. It really is odd weather for May.

The hawthorns are full on blossom and the scent is quite overpowering.  Not great for my hay fever but very pretty.

The rain stopped half way round so apart from feeling very humid it was pleasant enough.

We managed to get home just before the next downpour.

Tomorrow is looking ok in the morning but showery in the afternoon so need to plan our walking accordingly.  I fancy going somewhere different so I need to consult the local map and see where we’ve not been. Choices choices

Patience rewarded

It has been a lovely day, just an odd sprinkle of rain this afternoon, nothing much to worry about. We went for our daily walk.  Today over the meadow from Hemingford Abbots to Houghton, around the village and then back over the fields to the Mill.

The river looked so peaceful today with the clouds reflecting.  All felt right with the world for 5 minutes

The streams were running fast from the recent rains, this was a tranquil trickle last week.

I’m kind of wondering if I’d like a narrow boat holiday? Not sure about the cramped conditions and lack of headroom.  Guess I’d need to take a look first before committing, though it does seem a leisurely way to travel

More new life on the river

Lots of wildflowers in the back lanes

Finally after weeks of waiting the cygnets have arrived, four currently, with one possibly two eggs left the hatch.  Mum must be relieved after nest sitting for so long.  We will walk that way again in a few days so hopefully I can get better photos and an update on numbers
