End of an era

It all started in 1995 with the purchase of a Harley Davidson Sportster from a colleagues husband. Then followed another Sportster, then a Dyna Wideglide until in 2002 he bought his beloved Road King.

20 years and 50,000 miles - We have had so much fun with this bike over the years, USA road trip, rallies, holidays, day trips. In fact 17 years today we were just starting out on our three month US trip with a visit to the Harley Davidson factory in York, Pennsylvania, time flies. And times change.

Over the last four years our life has been different, we moved, retired, spent lots of time in France.  My back is an issue, it’s no longer comfortable for me to go great distances and various other reasons. With the pandemic the bike has been off the road for the past year. So in all that time the bike has only done 200 miles.

Each year it goes for its MOT and each time the guy that owns the garage says if ever you think of selling give me first refusal. Well on Friday last week he made that same request and this morning Peter gave him a figure and the answer came back yes within 15 minutes.

We have been talking about selling the bike for sometime and if I’m honest, I firstly thought he’d never give it up and secondly was surprised at how I now feel about the decision. It will be sad to see it go but it does make sense all things considered. We have lots of happy memories to look back on.
