Rude awakening

At 5:30 this morning we were woken by rain hammering on our bedroom window.  We lay there listening to the wind howling and the rain for a while then decided we obviously weren’t going back to sleep.  It was a waiting game to see who was going to go and make the drinks, I won and snuggled back down with my book.

The rain continued well past breakfast and we feared we would be stuck in all day. Fortunately by 10 it had stopped so we went and picked up some netting then fiddled about til after lunch before going for a walk.

We had been out for about 20 minutes when the first rumble of thunder was heard in the distance, by the time we got to Houghton Meadows this was happening

Fortunately we managed to stay dry and the storm passed over quickly leaving behind sunny skies, though still very breezy

The river was running fast over the weir today it has been very quiet recently but with so much rain last night it was obviously well topped up.

Eastside Common looking lovely in the sunshine, cows peacefully grazing and only a couple of dog walkers

Crops coming through - straight lines

So glad we went out and enjoyed the afternoon, sometimes it’s good to ignore the forecast.

Allotment tomorrow morning and haircut and blow dry in the afternoon. I am happy to report my hairdresser prior to Covid is now working two days a week in a new salon in the village so pleased he has decided to get his scissors out again. I’m looking forward to hearing what he’s been up to
