Change of plan

Today I should have been meeting with Manda for a catch up but she messaged this morning and said she thought it too cold for sitting outside for long.  I had to agree. We’ve postponed til next Tuesday when hopefully this cold snap is over.

Peter and I had discussed a walk around Grafham Waters this week, so as I was now free for the day we packed a lunch and headed off.  Grafham is only 11 miles away, this is the furthest I’ve been in the car since November!

To say it was cold was an understatement but we wrapped up well and started out.  The circuit of the Waters is around 9 miles, we normally head towards Grafham village but this time we went in the opposite direction towards Perry instead (wind was behind us, good plan).  We stopped for coffee at Mander Park.  Then continued our route up and out along the headland and through the bluebell woods and back along the shore where we parked on a bench for lunch.  By the time we had finished lunch the clouds had come over and the wind was back up and it really was so so cold.  Anyway we took a different route back through the reed beds and out on the shoreline, new to us, we normally walk through Grafham village and back through the woods so this made a good change though definitely a fair weather detour as it had obviously been under water earlier in the season. We arrived back at Marlow Park around 2:30, it was very busy as it’s still the school holidays and families tend to use this entrance as there is a big children’s playground and picnic area, plus the cycle hire shop.

As you can see from the photos the weather was slowly changing as we walked round, we even had snow flurries on the way home. Wonder what tomorrow will bring?
